Become a Tutor
Help to make a change in someone’s life and become a Literacy Tutor volunteer!
The Literacy Connection currently has adult learners in our community waiting to be matched with a tutor like you! Would you like to help?
Literacy Tutors help other adults with their English literacy skills, at a time and place convenient for both tutor and learner. NO PRIOR TEACHING OR TUTORING EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED! We will train and guide you through the tutoring process. Join us at one of our upcoming Tutor Orientations to learn more!
To Become a Literacy Tutor
Potential volunteers need to complete a one-hour orientation delivered synchronously over Zoom. If interested, this is followed by 12 hours of self-paced online training administered by Literacy Works.
Topics covered in orientation include an introduction of the organization, present the community need, and briefly talk about the 12-hour pre-service training required for new literacy tutor volunteers. It is recommended that this training be completed within a six-week time frame.
A literacy tutor volunteers’ commitment is to, meet regularly at a mutually convenient time and public place, such as a library, for a minimum of four hours per month for at least one year.
